Birthday: 5/25/1982
Gender: Female

Interests: I am interested in words - what we can make them, how we use them, the power of them. I also like to spend long hours reading medieval poetry in the original Gaelic dialect. When I'm not doing that, I try to love my Jesus as much as possible and, of course, go on long walks on the beach while looking at the sea that bares her bosom to the moon...
Expertise: I'm pretty much bad at everything I do, but don't tell me that - I already know.

Okay, those of you who know me, know that I am really weird.  Basically, I like to create my own theories and wisdom from life's little experiences.  For example, as some of you have heard me explain before, I have a theory on how Brittany Spears is a modern day representation of Communist Russia as it existed in the early 20th century.  That, however, is not what I want to talk about today.  Today, I wish to express my disdain and contempt for a little 80's childhood phenomenon called the couple skate.

If you ever went roller skating between the years of 1985 and 1992, then you know what I'm talking about.  You're at Sally's 10-year-old birthday party skating with your friends to "Ice Ice Baby" when all of a sudden the lights go down, the disco ball casts flirty shadows on the floor, and they change the music to the latest Boys II Men love song.  The DJ comes over the intercom and announces in a sultry voice "alright, boys and girls, it's time to put down your drink, get out on the rink, grab the one you'd like to date and come out here for the couple skate.  Remember it's couples only, everyone."  I'm sure what he meant to say was "All you losers who aren't 'going with' anyone need to move y'alls asses off the floor because this part of the evening is reserved for those who have already given their eleven year old hearts away."

Are you seeing the problem yet?  If not, let me help you.  Basically, what the voice of Satan, er, I mean the DJ is implying is that value in our society is based upon whether or not you have someone to 'skate' with.

'Skating' is clearly symbolic of life's seasons and changes.  Many of us are content with "shooting the duck" and not really paying attention to anyone else in the rink.  Some of us are just trying to master the cross-over leg turn where your skates can actually cross over each other while you turn instead of remaining side by side while the skater twists his/her body in the direction it wants to go.  Still there are others of us who would much rather do the limbo.  Which is fun for a while until those dang wheels slip out from underneath you and your nursing a bruised tailbone for six weeks.

As for me, well I'm just doing the hokey pokey.  After all, isn't that what it's all about?

I think this might be the most beautiful song I've ever heard in my entire life (at least this week anyway). I've heard it before but I never really listened to the words. It literally takes my breath away.

Well I heard there was a secret chord
that David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this:
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Well Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and i've walked this floor,
I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
But love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do you
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Maybe there is a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Sometimes I'm just so amazed at how God can steer us back to the path he wants us to be on.  He never gets tired of showing us His ways and I never get tired of dwelling under His canopy of grace.  I read this last night during my BSF study and it blew me away.  I literally had to read it about 5 times before I finally got it.

"Knowing our own hearts, it is not hard to understand how a true believer in God could on occasion slip into such sin of self-delusion that he could circumvent the word and purpose of God while his heart is set in self-will on his own particular plan."

"slip into self-delusion."  I do that ALL the time.  I don't want my plans to prevail, though, because who is that ultimately going to glorify?  Also, Jesus told me this:

"The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.  Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."  Galatians 6:8-10
